A significant vehicle collision occurred in Los Angeles Koreatown on Monday morning, leading to three individuals being transported to the hospital. Initial information, later verified by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), indicated the collision happened right before 6 a.m. at the crossroads of Western Avenue and 3rd Street. The crash involved two vehicles that seemed to T-bone each other and subsequently hit a pedestrian.
Public Information Officer Cpt. Adam VanGerpen elaborated that during the crash, two vehicles made contact and consequently struck an individual on the sidewalk. The victim on the footpath was a street vendor selling tamales.
The other patients included two adults and a minor. Although their exact conditions were unknown at the moment, it was confirmed by Cpt. VanGerpen that their states were not critical. Aerial visuals obtained by Sky5 depicted debris strewn across 3rd Street while teams cleared the scene and evaluated the drivers. The two cars involved in the collision, a black Chevrolet Volt and a red Kia Stinger, were observed significantly apart from each other on opposing lanes of the street. This positioning suggests speed might have been a factor contributing to the accident, as per Cpt. VanGerpen.
The comments from Cpt. VanGerpen indicate high speeds may have exacerbated the accident, judging from the abundant skid marks present at the scene. A reminder was highlighted that it is crucial for people to maintain safe speeds, especially considering the timing of the accident. The collision site is anticipated to be closed for several hours pending further investigation.
