Over the weekend, San Bernardino County authorities initiated an investigation into the death of a 16-year-old boy involved in an accident while riding his motorized scooter. The accident occurred early Saturday morning in Rancho Cucamongas Central Park area, on Milliken Avenue.

The San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department reported that the teenager and a Volkswagen collided shortly after 1:30 a.m. The car, driven by 56-year-old Lystra Wilson, was heading northbound on Milliken Avenue at the time of the collision. According to the department, the teenager was in the process of crossing the Central Park intersection when the Volkswagen hit him.

The 16-year-old, whose name has not been disclosed by the sheriffs department, was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital following the accident. Unfortunately, his injuries were severe and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Sheriffs Department further clarified that they do not believe impairment was a factor in the incident. The exact cause of the collision, however, remains under review.
