BMW of North America, LLC has issued a recall for certain 2024 models of the R 1300 GS motorcycles, according to recall information published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The fault lies within the housing for the starter motor relay. According to the reports from the NHTSA, the housing may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can result in a damaged and overheating relay. This fault, classified under the ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:STARTER ASSEMBLY:RELAY defect category, poses a risk since an overheated electric relay might increase the risk of a fire.
BMW is keen to correct this issue and has announced remedies for owners of these motorcycles. BMW Dealers will replace the faulty starter relay and also provide updated software to rectify the problem. This service will be provided to BMW 2024 R 1300 GS owners free of charge.
In order to notify the owners, BMW has sent out notification letters since September 23, 2024. However, if any owner has not received the notification, they are encouraged to contact BMW customer service directly to address this issue. BMWs customer service can be reached at 1-800-525-7417.
