A major collision involving multiple vehicles, inclusive of two big rigs, occurred on the 5 Freeway in the East Los Angeles area on Monday morning, resulting in hundreds of Amazon packages being scattered on the freeway. The four-vehicle crash was reported at approximately 6:30 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway, in close proximity to Ditman Avenue.
As stated by the California Highway Patrol, this collision obstructed multiple southbound lanes and left hundreds of packages on the freeway. On the same day, Dec. 30, 2024, an Amazon truck was reported to be involved in a crash on the 5 Freeway in East Los Angeles as well.
The first responders to the scene reported additional damages including a damaged light pole. Also, an estimated 40 gallons of fuel leaked from one of the trucks involved in the crash. Furthermore, a SigAlert was issued at 7 a.m. for the closure of two southbound lanes, which was expected to remain in effect for approximately two hours, according to the CHP.
As of now, no immediate reports of injuries have been revealed. Investigations regarding the root cause of the crash are ongoing. More information and updates on this development will be provided as and when they are available.
