An incident involving a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) motorcycle officer occurred on the northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass, resulting in a significant traffic disruption. The specific circumstances leading to the crash, which happened just after 4 p.m. near Skirball Center Drive, are yet to be clarified by the authorities. Emergency services, including the Los Angeles Fire Department, were promptly deployed at the scene.
The officer was found on the scene, in lanes of traffic, receiving medical assistance on a stretcher, as aerial footage from Sky5 demonstrated. On-site paramedics attended to the officer before transferring him into an ambulance for further medical attention. Imagery from the scene and subsequent traffic congestion was captured by KTLA on November 21, 2024.
The extent of the traffic backup was significant, with northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway reportedly completely shut down due to the incident. Sky5s Gil Leyvas reported that the traffic disruption was observable up to the 10 Freeway. In response to the incident and subsequent traffic issues, officers from the California Highway Patrol were deployed to the scene.
In a later update provided by the LAPD, officials stated that the officer sustained only minor injuries in the crash and is expected to recover. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers and unpredictability of traffic situations, and the importance of cautious and attentive driving.
