The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) embarked on an investigation into a plane crash at Pomona Fairplex that resulted in injuries to four people. The crash event took place on a previous day during a highly attended racing event.
The event on-site was the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals that took place on Sunday. Any further information regarding preliminary findings of the investigation is expected to be released later in the day today, Monday.
The aircraft involved in the crash is identified as a single-engine Piper PA32 Aircraft. The initial findings indicate that the plane was trying to land at the Brackett Field Airport located nearby in La Verne, unfortunately, it crashed near the racetrack with thousands of spectators present.
There are multiple accounts and evidence of the incident. On Nov. 18, 2024, a downed plane was visible at the scene where it had crashed into several vehicles and trailers in Pomona. A record of the crash happening near the drag strip of the Pomona Fairplex during the NHRA Finals on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024, is also present. A video by Key News Network records a small plane crashing next to the Pomona racetrack on Nov. 17, 2024. This video captured the dull thud of the low-flying plane crash followed by an eyewitness statement from the grandstands saying, An airplane just crashed.
The races were paused as emergency personnel attended to the crash site. Aerial video footage from Sky5 shows yellow tape around five vehicles and three trailers affected by the crash. In a bit of good news, the incident resulted in no injuries to bystanders, and the four people on board the plane were rescued. Their injuries vary from moderate to severe but no lives are in immediate danger. As of Monday, no updates regarding the injuries are available.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are still investigating the cause of the crash.
