A section of westbound 134 Freeway was completely shut down on Sunday morning due to a fatal crash involving a wrong-way driver, resulting in two casualties. According to information provided by a California Highway Patrol (CHP) spokesperson, the incident was initially reported at 8:29 a.m. near the San Rafael Avenue off-ramp in Pasadena, west of the interchange with the 210 Freeway.

It was confirmed that the crash involved a minimum of four vehicles. On January 5, 2025, the same area of the freeway was previously shut down due to a similar incident involving a wrong-way driver, resulting in fatal outcomes.

The City of Pasadena Public Information Officer, Lisa Dederian, reported that two people lost their lives in the crash. Furthermore, three other individuals were urgently dispatched to nearby hospitals for treatment. Footage from the scene captured by KTLA displayed the severity of the crash, showing several damaged vehicles and debris scattered across the lanes of the freeway. One of the vehicles was noticeably facing the wrong direction, although it is uncertain whether this was the car which was initially driving in the wrong direction.

It was reported that the affected section of the 134 Freeway will remain closed for several hours. Motorists who have to travel through the area have been advised to consider alternative routes to bypass the affected stretch of the freeway. Contributions to this report were made by Sofia Pop Perez and KTLA photojournalist Phil Ige.
