A deadly collision caused by a wrong-way motorist on the 405 freeway in Sherman Oaks disrupted morning commute routines on February 11, 2025. The incident was first reported after 4 a.m when the California Highway Patrol (CHP) spotted a vehicle moving northbound in the southbound lanes. Soon after, a three to four vehicle accident around Valley Vista Boulevard grabbed the attention of authorities.

CHP confirmed that one person died due to the crash, while at least one more was transported to a local hospital, with the condition undisclosed. However, the identity of the wrong-way driver remains unknown, as well as whether intoxication played a part in the crash.

A SigAlert, indicating unplanned lane closures, was issued approximately 30 minutes after the first sighting of the wrong-way driver. As a consequence, substantial traffic delays permeated across the San Fernando Valley. The disruption spread beyond the 405, affecting the southbound 101 Freeway, Victory Boulevard, Ventura Boulevard, and other major roads, adding upwards of an hour to typically regular commute times for some travelers.

The incident resulted in the temporary closure of all southbound lanes on the 405 freeway. However, they were reopened before 10 a.m. after CHP officers cleared the roadway. The SigAlert was subsequently cancelled, as was announced at 9:41 a.m., marking the end of the incidents direct impact on rush hour traffic.
