In Los Angeles, a serious two-vehicle collision has left one person dead and another severely injured. This accident occurred on Sunday, in the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw neighborhood, as confirmed by KTLA and officials involved in the case.
The Los Angeles Fire Department received the call around 4:09 P.M reporting the tragic incident. Two individuals were said to be in a dire state following the crash, with one of them trapped in his car. It was up to fire department personnel to respond swiftly to the calamity at Don Lorenzo Drive and Stocker Street and begin the daunting task of extricating the trapped man, only described as being in his fifties.
Following successful extrication, both the man and another passenger from the other car were rushed to the hospital, both critical at the scene, according to LAFD reports. For privacy concerns, officials did not immediately disclose the identities of the victims.
The police investigation has shed light on the possible course of events. An LAPD report suggests that one car was heading southbound on Don Lorenzo Drive and making a turn to Stocker Street eastbound, when it hit the second car travelling westbound on the same street. The passenger of the first vehicle later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, it remains unconfirmed if this was the man who was initially trapped.
In the aftermath, crews were observed on several occasions at the fatal crash scene on Don Lorenzo Drive and Stocker Street, on Dec. 15, 2024, likely involved in investigative and cleanup efforts. The LAPD has reported that the passenger from the second vehicle is currently stable. Both drivers of the vehicles escaped the incident unscathed. Details remain limited as police havent disclosed whether speed was a contributing factor or if there were other passengers in the vehicles at the time of the collision.
