Seven individuals were involved in a rollover crash reported in downtown Los Angeles. This incident occurred at the intersection of Broadway and Cesar Chavez Avenue, near the entrance to the Chinatown neighborhood at 12:40 a.m. on Saturday. Subsequent police updates confirm the collision resulted in the death of a teenager.
Police reports indicate at least two vehicles were implicated in the accident. Three individuals were in critical condition following the crash. LA Fire Department further reports that necessary medical extrications were required for two out of the three critically injured people. Information regarding the health status of the remaining passengers was not available during the early hours of Saturday afternoon when the incident report was updated.
The Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson provided further information about the accident. One of the vehicles was moving westbound on Cesar Chavez Avenue at the time of the collision with the second vehicle that was moving north on Broadway. The spokesperson noted that an 18-year-old male passenger in the second vehicle was promptly moved to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the vehicle moving westbound on Cesar Chavez Avenue reportedly fled the scene following the accident, elevating the case to a felony hit-and-run. Police have yet to release a suspect description. Photos from the accident scene show one vehicle overturned on a sidewalk while the other vehicle sustained significant damage. Police had cleared the scene by 6 a.m. on Saturday.
