A motorist lost their life in a major collision that took place on the 91 Freeway near the Orange County/Riverside County boundary in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Initial reports revealed that a vehicle had stalled in the eastbound lane just past the 241 Toll Road around 1 am. The following events were triggered approximately five minutes later when a second vehicle crashed into the stalled car, resulting in one of the vehicles bursting into flames according to the California Highway Patrol.
At the scene, remnants of the wreckage were scattered across the freeway. Firefighters were seen to be managing the flaming vehicle. It was noted that along with the two main vehicles involved, two additional vehicles seemed to have been somehow implicated in the incident. Early the same morning, emergency responders attended the fatal crash.
In the aftermath of the crash, more in-depth details regarding the incident, including injuries, were not immediately released. At 2 am, a coroners van was summoned to the crash site. An unconfirmed report from OnSceneTV, a freelance media firm, suggested that the collision might have resulted in two fatalities, but authorities are yet to confirm this.
All eastbound lanes on the 91 Freeway were closed following the incident, with a single lane being temporarily opened later. Just after 4 am, all lanes were seen to be closed again. By 6 am, the freeway was cleared. However, an unrelated crash on the westbound side near Green River Road further exacerbated traffic delays, mainly affecting commuters coming from the Corona area in Riverside County.
