Two individuals, a pedestrian and a motorcyclist, lost their lives in an unfortunate highway accident in Ventura County, California. The incident took place early Sunday morning, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The CHP responded to the reported accident at around 6:05 a.m. on Highway 118 west of Rocky Peak Road in Moorpark.
On arrival, the officers discovered an unoccupied car in the center median, and to the east of the vehicle, they located a 33-year-old woman from Canoga Park and a 54-year-old man from Simi Valley. Both were laying in the highway lanes and were confirmed deceased on site. The CHP is currently withholding the victims identities pending notification to their respective families.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the female victim initially collided her Nissan Altima into the right side guardrail, causing the vehicle to lose control across all westbound Highway 118 lanes. The vehicle eventually halted after crashing into the center median wall. The woman exited the vehicle and while standing in the first lane, was hit by the motorcyclist. According to CHP, the collision was so severe that it caused the man to be thrown off his 2020 Triumph Truxton motorcycle. Both casualties and the motorcycle lay scattered across the roadway, west of the accident scene.
The accident resulted in the closure of the left three lanes of westbound Highway 118 near Rocky Peak Road for nearly four hours, with traffic being redirected through the right lane. The circumstances regarding the involvement of alcohol or drugs remain uncertain. The CHP Moorpark Area Office is leading the ongoing investigation and encourages any potential witnesses to come forward. For further information on the deceased, the Ventura County Medical Examiners Office can be reached at 805-641-4400.
