A fatal highway crash took place in Ventura County on Sunday morning, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The incident occurred at around 6:05 a.m. on Highway 118, west of Rocky Peak Road in Simi Valley.

Authorities found an abandoned car in the center median and discovered two individuals – a 33-year-old woman from Canoga Park and a 54-year-old man from Simi Valley – dead within the highway lanes. The identities of the victims are withheld for the time being until their families are notified.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the female pedestrian crashed her Nissan Altima into the right-side guardrail, subsequently skidding out of control across the westbound lanes of Highway 118, ultimately colliding with the center median wall. Post-crash, she vacated the vehicle and stood in the first lane where she was then struck by a motorcyclist. CHP reports that the collision was so severe that it ejected the man from his 2020 Triumph Truxton motorcycle. Subsequently, both victims and the motorcycle ended up spread across the roadway, west of the crash site.

No arrests have been made and it is currently unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a part in the accident. The tragic incident led to the closure of the left three lanes of westbound Highway 118 in proximity to Rocky Peak Road for roughly four hours, with traffic being redirected through the right lane.

For further information about the deceased, individuals are asked to contact the Ventura County Medical Examiners Office. CHPs Moorpark Area Office advises any potential witnesses who have yet to come forward to provide their statements to contact their office.
