A high-speed traffic crash on Tuesday evening has resulted in casualties, as per information released by the Riverside Police Department. A coupe car lost control and collided with a tree at the intersection of Sycamore Canyon Boulevard and Cottonwood Avenue, leading to severe injuries for two individuals.
The incident was reported at 6:15 p.m., with officers being dispatched to the location following a call referencing a traffic collision. First responders found the crashed vehicle to be a 2017 Nissan 370Z, driven by a 29-year-old who was speeding southbound on Sycamore Canyon Boulevard when the car spun out of control.
Both the driver and the passenger were trapped inside the wreckage and had to be extricated. They were hurriedly transported to a local hospital, where unfortunately, the passenger did not survive the injuries. The passenger, a Moreno Valley resident, has not been publicly identified yet, pending the coroners investigation.
The driver, also a resident of Moreno Valley, survived the crash and is purported to be in stable condition, subject to ongoing medical observations. The respective authorities have not yet stated whether drug use or alcohol consumption played a role in the crash. The Riverside Police Departments Major Accident Investigation Team has assumed the investigation.
