On Friday evening, a collision involving two vehicles occurred on the 405 Freeway in West Los Angeles, causing notable disruptions and resulting in fatalities. The crash claimed the lives of a 72-year-old woman and a dog, according to official sources. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) confirmed these deaths and reported further casualties from the accident.
Three additional persons were hospitalized due to the collision, two of whom are in a critical state. The serious nature of the crash necessitated the closure of at least three lanes on the freeway. The LAFD also reported that another dog was involved in the crash, which departed from the scene following the accident and has been marked as missing in the northbound lanes of the 405 freeway.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) initially reported the incident around 6:42 p.m. near Wilshire Boulevard. Upon reaching the site, LAFD crews found three patients, one of whom was trapped inside a vehicle and required immediate extrication. The hospitalized individuals were identified as an 80-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man, both in critical condition, and a 60-year-old woman in fair condition.
The LAFD provided limited information about the deceased, identifying her as a 72-year-old woman but not providing additional details about the dog. The CHP communicated that the northbound lanes no. 5 and 6 were expected to be closed for approximately three hours so crews could clear the accident site. However, by 10:24 p.m., it was reported that all lanes were reopened.
