A two-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian occurred in Rialto, California on Sunday. As reported by the local Rialto Police Department, the crash has resulted in one fatality, one minor injury and an arrest.

Sgt. Smith of the Rialto Police Department confirmed that officers were dispatched to the scene at 6:26 p.m., following reports of a vehicular incident involving a pedestrian. On arriving, it was observed that a green Dodge Caravan had jumped the corner of Etiwanda and Riverside avenues, striking a pedestrian in the process. The pedestrian was reportedly walking his bicycle when the accident occurred.

Preliminary reports suggested that the female driver of the Dodge Caravan was driving south on Riverside Avenue with an intention to turn left and move east on Etiwanda. Failure to yield led to a collision with a black Audi, forcing the Caravan onto the northeast corner of the sidewalk and consequently striking the pedestrian.

The immediate aftermath of the crash left the front end of the Audi severely damaged. The pedestrian, a 50-year-old man, was swiftly transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Audi contained a 19-year-old driver and his 2-year-old son during the time of the crash. While the father remained unscathed, the son sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The driver of the Caravan, a 32-year-old woman, was also hospitalized following the accident. Upon her release, authorities plan to arrest her on charges of driving under the influence. The intersection, where the crash occurred, was re-opened to traffic by 12:30 a.m. on Monday.
