A fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred on the 405 Freeway in Carson on a Monday night. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that one person has died, and another is in a critical condition. The CHP officers responded to the scene near Avalon Boulevard in the southbound lanes shortly before 10 p.m., where about four to five cars were involved in the crash.

Los Angeles County Fire crews confirmed the fatality and transported the critically injured patient. At this time, the identities of the victims have not been disclosed. According to the CHP, more injuries were reported, but the extent of these injuries is currently unknown.

The 405 Freeways southbound lanes were fully closed at approximately 10:30 p.m. as CHP began their investigations into the crash. The CHP is also looking into reports that the crash may have been caused by a wrong-way driver.

Sky5 provided overhead coverage of the fatal crash site, confirming that authorities are investigating the possibility of a wrong-way driver being involved in causing the incident in October 2024. Traffic was redirected off the freeway at Avalon Boulevard, and motorists were advised to seek alternative routes.

As of now, there is no estimated time when the lanes will be reopened. Reports from Sky5 at the closure time showed significant traffic congestion that extended for miles. Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing, with further updates expected as more information becomes available.
