A fatal collision incident resulted in the temporary closure of all northbound lanes of the 110 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles during the early hours of Tuesday, November 12, 2024, according to information from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and news sources. The incident was reported shortly after 5 a.m., near the 3rd Street exit.
Media crew from Sky5, present at the scene by 5:15 a.m., recorded first responders attending to a body laid out in the far right lane of the freeway. A significantly damaged vehicle was also spotted near the scene. At the time, it was uncertain whether the deceased individual was a pedestrian hit by a vehicle or an occupant of the vehicle involved in the crash.
The collision led to significant traffic disruptions along the northbound 110 Freeway. Reports indicated that the backup extended to the 10 Freeway. KTLAs Rich Prickett, reporting from Sky5, observed that the traffic jam reached back to the 105 Freeway, marking a traffic backup of approximately 11 miles. Emergency services managed to reopen one lane of the northbound 110 by 6:15 a.m. Drivers on the southbound span of the 110 also experienced some slowdown as many slowed to observe the crash scene.
Heavy delays in the downtown Los Angeles area were anticipated through Tuesday morning as investigations into the collision proceeded.
