An ongoing investigation is being conducted in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, concerning a severe car crash that occurred on Thursday night. The incident resulted in the death of a 77-year-old man and two teenagers getting hospitalized.

The crash transpired shortly after 9 p.m. on East 4th Street. The deceased, identified as Jose Trevizo, was in a Honda, traveling westbound and trying to make a left turn when two teenagers, aged 17 and 18, heading eastbound collided with the side of his vehicle. The collision caused the Honda to spin and halt in the middle of the intersection.

Following the collision, the teenagers Mercedes veered off the road and crashed into a pole. The teens were transported in serious condition to a local hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department. At this time, there are no updates on their medical conditions.

Jose Trevizo was declared dead at the crash site. Longtime Boyle Heights residents mourn Trevizos passing, speaking to his status as a longtime area resident.

Witnesses suggest the Mercedes may have been speeding at the time of the crash, with estimates guessing they were traveling at speeds upwards of 85 to 90 mph. The teens sobriety at the time of incident is not currently under suspicion. Authorities have yet to determine whether speed or alcohol played a role in the crash. Local citizens informed KTLA that the area of the accident is known for speeding and frequent accidents.
