On a recent Saturday evening in Riverside County, a multiple-vehicle collision resulted in the demise of a 75-year-old woman. The chain of collisions was allegedly triggered by a man who is now under investigation for driving under the influence (DUI).

The preliminary report from the Riverside Police Department indicates that the incident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. A woman, aged 75, was driving her 2005 model Jeep Liberty on Collett Avenue when she was rear-ended by the DUI suspect driving a Toyota Tundra. The force of the impact pushed the womans vehicle into the opposite lanes, causing her to collide head-on with a 2014 Toyota C-HR, operated by a 70-year-old Riverside man.

Officers and fire personnel responded quickly after receiving reports of the three-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, they found three persons with varying degrees of injuries, requiring medical attention. The woman driving the Jeep who was rear-ended suffered life-threatening injuries from the crash. Despite attempts to save her life at Riverside Community Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries. The woman, a resident of Riverside, was not identified beyond her age.

Police proceeded to arrest the 38-year-old man from Norco who was driving the Toyota Tundra, based on suspicion of DUI. He was booked into Robert Presley Detention Center. Information pertaining to the condition of the other two injured individuals was not immediately available.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing. The department urged members of the public with additional information about the traffic collision to contact Detective Matthew Parrish.
