A big rig crash led to a major blockage on the westbound 101 Freeway through the Encino area on a Tuesday morning. The crash was reported around 5:15 a.m, close to Hayvenhurst Avenue, involving the big rig and another vehicle. Following the collision, the big rig overturned, and its position blocked all westbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
As a result of the accident, diesel fuel began leaking from the big rig. Cleanup crews were quick to respond and used absorbents to clean up the mess. This incident led to all lanes of traffic on the westbound side being blocked as well as one lane on the eastbound side. At approximately 6:49 a.m, the lane closures were still in place as reported by aerial videos from Sky5.
The CHP later provided a tentative update stating a couple of lanes might be reopened around 7:30 a.m. However, there was no clear timeline regarding how long the complete blockage would persist. At the time, it was unclear whether the incident led to any injuries. Investigation into the specific cause of the crash is ongoing. Further updates on this developing story will be provided in due course.
