On December 16th, a man was arrested under the accusation that he had purposefully crashed his car into deputies following a pursuit in San Bernardino County. The San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department confirmed that the man, identified as 52-year-old Stephen Bloomer from Twentynine Palms, was responsible for the incident.

Deputies first noticed the suspect when he was seen speeding in a Corvette on Twentynine Palms Highway, near Torres Avenue intersection in Joshua Tree, slightly before 1:00 pm. When authorities attempted to pull over Bloomer, he continued to drive in an erratic manner, leading to a chase by patrol units. Out of concern for the safety of other drivers, the pursuing deputies eventually called off the chase.

According to reports, a California Highway Patrol officer spotted Bloomer in his Corvette at a Circle K in Morongo Valley later in the day. The officer tried to apprehend Bloomer, at which point Bloomer reversed his car and crashed into the CHP vehicle. A second deputy, who arrived at the scene and parked their patrol car nearby, was targeted as Bloomer accelerated and intentionally crashed into the occupied patrol vehicle. The deputy inside the patrol car suffered minor injuries, was transported to the hospital, treated, and later released.

Bloomer was subsequently arrested at the scene. The charges are attempted murder of a peace officer and felony assault on a peace officer. An ongoing investigation of the incident is being conducted by the department. Expressing his dismay at the event, Acevedo disclosed that the frequency of break-ins has escalated since the inauguration of SoFi Stadium and the Intuit Dome. He further noted that this is the fourth robbery the store has been subjected to within a year.

An innocent woman, in her 60s, was tragically killed in an Orange County multi-vehicle accident that was caused by a man attempting to escape police pursuit on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Fullerton Police Department. Investigators revealed that the pursuit began when the officers noted a man, later identified as 40-year-old Anthony Hanzel of Anaheim, indulging in theft near the intersection of North Gilbert Street and West Malvern Avenue in Fullerton. Reportedly, Hanzel was involved in a preliminary non-injury collision near Brookhurst Road and Orangethorpe Avenue. The chase ensued onto the westbound 91 Freeway and ceased when the suspect exited at Knott Avenue, with the officers losing track of Hanzel. The pursuit was picked up by La Palma police after spotting the fleeing driver near La Palma Avenue and Walker Street. Approximately around 12:50 p.m., Hanzel drove through a red light at the intersection of La Palma Avenue and Moody Street, smashing into a blue BMW.

Lauren Lau, a witness to the horrifying incident and whose vehicle also sustained minor damage, recalled to a photojournalist from OnScene.TV how Hanzels car came at her, causing a complete T-bone collision.

The impact severely injured the female BMW driver, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. The police have not yet disclosed the victims identity. Post-crash, Hanzel was rushed to a local hospital for medical attention. According to Fullerton police, charges including petty theft, hit-and-run, and felony evading are expected to be filed against Hanzel.
