American Honda Motor Co. has issued a recall on an array of Honda and Acura models, including Acura Integra, Civic Type R, CR-V Hybrid, CR-V, HR-V, Civic, Civic Hatchback, and amongst others due to an issue relating to the vehicles steering capabilities.
Specifically, certain models from the years 2022 to 2025 have been identified as potentially having a faulty steering gearbox assembly. The problem stems from a possible manufacturing error that may cause excess internal friction, eventually leading to difficulties with steering the vehicle. This poses a significant safety concern, as these steering issues increase the risk of a crash.
The recall notably includes 2023-2025 Acura Integra, Civic Type R, CR-V Hybrid, CR-V, HR-V, 2022-2025 Civic, Civic Hatchback, 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S, 2025 CR-V Fuel Cell EV, Civic Hybrid, and Civic Hatchback Hybrid vehicles.
In response, Honda has committed to correcting this defect free of charge. Dealers will be tasked with replacing the worm gear spring and redistributing or adding the necessary grease to ensure safe and smooth steering moving forward.
Honda expects to begin formally notifying owners of the recall by mail on November 18, 2024. In the meantime, affected Honda customers can reach out to Honda Customer Service at 1-888-234-2138 for further details or assistance.
For this recall, Honda has issued the following identification numbers: SJS, MJU, QJT, and VJV. It is recommended that all potentially affected owners respond promptly to this recall to ensure their safety on the road.
