An egg delivery truck was involved in a significant crash on the southbound 5 Freeway in East Los Angeles on Feb. 3, 2025, which resulted in eggs and debris scattering across the freeway and causing a substantial disruption to the morning commute.

The crash reportedly occurred at around 5:30 a.m. The trailer of the truck, connected to a company named Good Eggs, clipped an overpass just south of the East L.A. interchange, near Indiana Street. The impact was so severe that part of the big rig was completely torn apart. Aerial images from the scene revealed the extent of the damage.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded swiftly to the incident. A SigAlert, or significant traffic event alert, was swiftly issued, and cleanup crews mobilized to clear the debris. While the cleanup operation progressed, nearly all southbound lanes were closed, with a single lane left open for some traffic to get by.

Affected lanes were anticipated to remain closed until approximately 9:45 a.m., causing a considerable bottleneck in this busy commute radius. The disruption on the southbound side extended all the way back to the 110 Freeway, with the northbound side also reportedly experiencing traffic delays due to onlooking drivers.

Impact from the backup significantly inconvenienced commuters traveling through the area on Monday morning. Commuters and travelers are advised to monitor developments and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid further disruptions.
