An unfortunate incident occurred in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, wherein an 87-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. The tragic accident happened at approximately 6:50 p.m. on Monday.
The elderly woman was moving westward in a clearly marked crosswalk at the intersection of Berkeley Avenue and Allesandro Street. At this time, the driver of what appeared to be a dark-colored Ford Transit van, moving southbound on Allesandro Street, collided with the woman.
The LAPD informed that the driver did not stop to check on the woman or inform the police. Instead, they chose to abscond from the scene of the accident. The woman was unfortunately pronounced dead at the collision site. Public identification of the victim has yet to be made.
As of the latest updates from Saturday, the LAPD has not been able to provide any information about a potential suspect. A reward of up to $50,000 is in place for any information that leads to the identification and subsequent conviction of the hit-and-run suspect.
The Los Angeles Police Department strongly urges individuals with any information pertaining to the incident to come forward and reach out to them at 213-833-3713.
