A serious accident occurred in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles in the early hours of Wednesday when a driver fled the scene after crashing into the Park Western Apartments, located at the intersection of Western and Russell avenues. The incident resulted in one death and two injuries, one of them serious.
Investigations from the Los Angeles Police Department have revealed that the driver was moving in a southbound direction on Western Avenue and attempted a left turn. However, the driver lost control under uncertain circumstances and collided with the apartment building. Footage from the scene showed that the vehicle had penetrated a wall and ended up within an apartment unit.
First responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department extricated two individuals trapped under the vehicle. The victims were a 50-year-old male, who was declared dead on the location, and a 9-year-old male, who was delivered to a nearby hospital in severe condition. A third victim, a 34-year-old female, also received hospital treatment for minor injuries.
Law enforcement agencies are actively searching for the driver who ran away from the scene on foot; the police as yet have no description of the suspect. As a result of the crash, the Red Cross was necessitated to provide support to seven displaced apartment occupants pending building safety inspections by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety to assess the buildings habitation readiness.
