Authorities are engaged in a manhunt for a driver who was involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident on the 101 Freeway near Carmen Drive in Camarillo, California in the early hours of Tuesday. A caller reported at approximately 1 a.m. that an incident involving a semi-truck and a car had occurred. However, upon reaching the location, the California Highway Patrol clarified that the accident occurred between a black 2007 Lexus IS 250 and a gray 2010 Ford Mustang.

The Lexus, reportedly speeding in the northbound lanes, swerved to the right and made contact with a concrete wall which made the car roll over and halt in its lanes. Following this, the stationary Lexus was hit by the Ford Mustang which then veered into the middle dividers guard rail.

The Lexus driver, a 40-year-old man from Oxnard, was transported to Ventura County Medical Center but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Ford Mustang fled the scene of the accident on foot and is yet to be found.

Authorities are still investigating if alcohol or drugs were influencing factors in the crash. They are also appealing to the public to exercise caution during the upcoming New Years celebration. Lt. James Ferguson conveyed a poignant reminder about the preciousness of life in light of the tragic incident.
