A motorist inadvertently initiated a brush fire in the Santa Monica Mountains in the early hours of Thursday morning, after driving off the edge of the road. Reports say that the incident transpired shortly past 1 a.m. near Calabasas, on Stunt Road.
By the time emergency services crews reached the incident site, the vehicle had been completely consumed by fire, and flames had already extended to the surrounding vegetation. On December 26, 2024, the emergency team was alerted and responded promptly to the crash in the mountains.
Rescue workers, with the aid of a thermally-equipped drone, found the driver approximately 200 feet down the slope, according to reporting by freelance media company KNN. The dense foliage and challenging landscape added to the complexity of the rescue and firefighting activities.
The as-yet-unidentified driver was eventually extricated and transported to a local healthcare facility, though the extent of the injuries is currently unknown. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with no immediate clarity on whether substances or alcohol constituted contributing factors.
