A fatal accident transpired in Orange County, California, on Wednesday afternoon, with one individual reported dead due to a multi-vehicle pileup. Authorities revealed that the catastrophic event began following a reported heist in Fullerton involving officers from the Fullerton Police Department.
The mishap took place around 12:50 p.m. local time. The driver, who was escaping law enforcement in a white SUV, ran a red light at the crossing of La Palma Avenue and Moody Street in La Palma. The SUV then collided with a blue BMW stationed at the intersection.
The incident was reportedly captured by a nearby surveillance camera, providing a clear record of the accident. The footage presented shows the moment the evading driver struck the stationary vehicle at the intersection on December 18, 2024.
Lauren Lau, a witness who was also at the intersection, reported her own vehicle suffering minor damages due to the crash. Those two cars hit me and then swerved off to the side, Lau reported to an OnScene.TV photojournalist, indicating that the cars involved in the accident also intersected her path.
At this time, the identity of the deceased—whether it was the suspect behind the wheel of the SUV or an innocent driver—is yet to be confirmed by law enforcement. As this accident is still under investigation, authorities are advising the public to follow KTLA 5 News for further updates. The report is also supplemented by contributions from KTLAs Jacqueline Sarkissian.
