A major car crash in San Bernardino County was reported on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the hospitalization of a 4-year-old boy and the death of four other occupants. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed this incident to KTLA and indicated that the boy was the only survivor of a single-vehicle collision.
According to CHP dispatch, the crash occurred at approximately 4:46 p.m. in the area of eastbound Interstate 10 and east of Riverside Avenue, within the Colton city limits. An ambulance was dispatched to the crash site shortly after the event was reported.
The preliminary investigation conducted by CHP showed that a 2018 Toyota Corolla, heading eastwards, veered off the roadway onto the right shoulder and struck a tree stump. The force of the collision led to the significant injuries suffered by the 4-year-old boy, who was subsequently taken to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The four deceased victims of the crash were identified by CHP as follows: a 60-year-old man, a 60-year-old woman, a 30-year-old man, and a 30-year-old woman. The city of residence for each of the victims was not immediately available at the time of the report.
CHP has stated that the investigation into this crash continues to be ongoing. They urge anyone with additional information related to the incident to contact Officer S. Severin, ID 22723, at the CHP San Bernardino Area office. The contact number for this office is 909-383-4227.
