Early on Monday morning, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) cruiser was involved in a collision, causing it to overturn. This incident took place in the Willowbrook area of Los Angeles, on the 105 Freeway, which was reported shortly before 3 a.m. on the eastbound side near Wilmington Avenue.
According to initial reports, the CHP officer was in pursuit of a speeding vehicle when the accident occurred. The cause of the incident remains unknown, as stated by a CHP spokesperson.
A video from the scene, shared by OnScene.TV, depicted the CHP cruiser flipped on its roof. Another vehicle, visibly damaged, was seen close to the cruiser. The spokesperson could not confirm if multiple officers were in the cruiser at the time of the accident. However, they did acknowledge that at least one individual was transported to the local hospital. The patients condition remains unknown.
A SigAlert, a warning system used in California to inform drivers of traffic problems, was issued prompting a temporary shutdown of all eastbound lanes on the freeway. This allowed for an investigation into the accident to be conducted. That closure has since been lifted.
No additional details have been provided concerning the vehicle that the officers were pursuing. It also remains unclear if any other automobiles were involved in the collision.
