An Ojai resident, Fidencio Ramirez, aged 32, was taken into custody in the early hours of Wednesday after allegedly committing a theft at a Circle K gas station situated on North Ventura Avenue in Ojai and subsequently leading law enforcement authorities on a car chase.
The robbery took place shortly before 3 am, with Ventura County Sheriffs Department deputies from the Ojai station responding promptly to the incident. According to employee reports, the suspect entered the establishment and threatened a staff member with a knife before fleeing with stolen goods, which included both alcohol and cigarettes.
Following the issuance of a suspect and vehicle description by the dispatchers, the latter was found in close proximity to the crime scene. A law enforcement officer attempted to halt the vehicle, however, the driver instigated a short-lived pursuit.
The driver, later identified as Ramirez, eventually conceded and was arrested. A search of his vehicle yielded the stolen goods and video footage from the crime scene further reinforced the evidence of his involvement in the crime.
Ramirez, also a parole violator, has been remanded in the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura on the charges of robbery and evasion. His bail has been set at $100,000.
