In the early hours of November 30, 2024, a severe hit-and-run crash occurred in downtown Los Angeles, resulting in one fatality and six serious injuries. The collision reportedly occurred at the intersection of Broadway and Cesar Chavez Avenue near the Chinatown area. The impact caused one vehicle to roll over and land on its roof, while the other sustained significant damage.
Isaac Arellanes, Jr., 18, was a passenger in the car struck by the suspects vehicle. He was among two individuals trapped in the wreckage and subsequently extricated by firefighters. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Arellanes was pronounced dead on arrival. Of the remaining passengers, six were transported for medical treatment with two listed in critical condition.
The suspect, after causing the accident and leaving injured passengers behind in the vehicle, fled the scene on foot. His current whereabouts are unknown.
Witnesses at the scene believe the high speed of the suspects vehicle was a significant contributing factor in the severity of the collision. Reports indicate that in the aftermath of the accident, a roadside memorial featuring flowers, candles, and messages of remembrance for Arellanes began to form. However, the focus remains on locating the suspect who faces multiple charges including vehicular homicide.
