A tragic rollover accident occurred in downtown Los Angeles, involving seven people and resulting in the death of a teenager. The incident unfolded at the intersection of Broadway and Cesar Chavez Avenue near the entrance to the Chinatown neighborhood around 12:40 a.m. on Saturday. Initial reports from the California Highway Patrol and other sources indicate at least two cars were involved in the collision.
Among those involved, three victims were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Two of them required emergency extrication due to being trapped within their vehicles. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) did not have confirmed updates regarding the conditions of the remaining individuals involved in this incident as of Saturday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson detailed to local news source KTLA about the one of the vehicles involved in the collision. It was reported that the vehicle was moving westbound on Cesar Chavez when it collided with a second vehicle proceeding north on Broadway. The second vehicle contained an 18-year-old male, who was later transported to the hospital and subsequently pronounced dead.
Adding to the severity of the incident, the driver of the westbound vehicle on Cesar Chavez left the scene after the collision, upgrading this incident to be a felony hit-and-run. A suspect description is yet to be released by the authorities. Photos from the scene showed one of the vehicles overturned on the sidewalk and serious damage to the other involved vehicle. As per reports, the Police had cleared the scene by 6 a.m. Saturday.
