Late Friday night, a rollover collision involving two vehicles occurred at the intersection of Broadway and Cesar Chavez Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. The incident, unfolding near the Chinatown neighbourhood entrance, involved a total of seven individuals.

At 12:40 a.m. Saturday, Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) officials indicated that they transported three patients in critical condition, including two who were extricated from the wreckage. The medical status of the remaining four individuals was initially unknown.

A Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) spokesperson later confirmed that one of the involved vehicles was heading west on Cesar Chavez Avenue when it collided with a second vehicle driving north on Broadway. Subsequent to the collision, an 18-year-old male passenger in the second vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was subsequently declared deceased.

The LAPD also revealed that the driver of the westbound vehicle fled the scene following the accident, thereby classifying the incident as a felony hit-and-run. However, a suspect description or identification is yet to be issued by the police.

Commenting on the physical aftermath, one of the vehicles was found on its roof on the sidewalk, while the other vehicle sustained significant damage. Authorities had cleared the accident scene by 6 a.m. on Saturday.
