In Los Angeles, a police chase targeting a suspicion of car theft concluded in a 4-vehicle collision, leading to one fatality and injuring three inside the Winnetka neighborhood. The chase commenced at 1:32 p.m. local time and resulted in a catastrophic crash merely a minute later.
The suspect, male and presented as likely in his 40s, became aware of the police tracking him due to suspicion over a stolen Mercedes SUV. As a reaction, the suspect accelerated on Mason Avenue heading south and drove directly into the intersection of Saticoy Street when a white Tesla was heading westbound. At this time, LAPD Deputy Chief Don Graham revealed that the traffic lights were green for east and westbound traffic on Saticoy.
The suspects vehicle hit the Tesla, which was driving southbound at high speed, causing it to collide with two other vehicles. The suspect was promptly apprehended when his vehicle capsized. Its reported that he was transported to a hospital for minor injuries. The drivers of the black and silver vehicle, part of the crash, were also given medical help at a hospital for minor injuries, as noted by the Los Angeles Fire Department. The female driver of the white Tesla expired at the crash site.
In the aftermath of this incident, the suspect is now faced with vehicular homicide charges. Echoing the gravity of the event and its consequences for the affected families, especially so close to the holiday season, LAPD Deputy Chief Don Graham referred to it as a lingering tragedy.
