Authorities are continuing their search for a hit-and-run driver who caused a fatal accident in Carson, California. The incident occurred on August 31, when a 54-year-old woman named Cherise Johnson, was struck by a white SUV while she was crossing the intersection of Del Amo Boulevard and Tillman Avenue around 6 p.m. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department, the driver did not stop after the incident and fled from the scene.
The SUV is believed to have possible front-end damage, based on witness accounts and nearby surveillance footage captured shortly after the crash. However, the model and make of the vehicle still remain unknown due to the unclear quality of the video. Ms. Johnson, who was a grandmother, later died from her injuries sustained in the accident.
A reward amounting to $25,000 for any information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect has been approved by the Carson city council members as of November 6. Authorities are encouraging anyone with potential knowledge or evidence regarding the incident to come forward.
