A fatal accident is being investigated in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles resulting in the death of a 77-year-old man and causing two teenagers to be hospitalized. The crash took place on Thursday evening, shortly after 9 p.m. in the 3000 block of East 4th Street.
A westbound Honda, driven by the elderly man, was attempting a left turn when it collided with a vehicle carrying the two teenagers, ages 17 and 18, who were headed eastbound. The impact caused the Honda to spin out and come to rest in the center of the intersection. Captured on a surveillance video, the crash detail was released by OnScene.TV dated Nov. 14, 2024.
The teenagers Mercedes veered off the road and struck a pole following the collision. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that both teenagers were transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition. Meanwhile, the elderly Honda driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Though bystander, Connie Lomeli, speculated that the Mercedes was possibly traveling at high speeds approximately 85 to 90 miles per hour, police have yet to establish speed or alcohol as contributors to the accident. Lomely further stated that it did not seem like intoxication was a factor for the teenagers involved. The crash remains under investigation by the local authorities.
