A serious accident occurred just after 5 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, resulting in the immediate closure of all northbound lanes of the 110 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles. The collision was reported near the 3rd Street exit, says the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Just 15 minutes after the crash, Sky5 coverage shown first responders attending to the scene. One of the chilling visuals captured was of a sheet being laid over a body in the far right lane of the freeway alongside a heavily damaged vehicle. The identity of the deceased – whether a pedestrian or an occupant of the vehicle – was not immediately clear from the scene.
A repetition of fatal accidents on Tuesday morning once again emphasized the gravity of the situation along the same stretch of the 110 Freeway. The extensive impact of the crash on rush hour traffic was exacerbated by the consequent traffic jam stretching up to 11 miles back to the 105 Freeway according to observations made by KTLAs Rich Prickett from Sky5.
By 6:15 a.m., authorities had managed to partially resume the flow of traffic by opening one lane on the northbound 110. Meanwhile, southbound motorists also faced delays as they slowed down near the scene of the collision.
As investigations into the cause of the crash continue, motorists are advised to expect heavy delays within the downtown Los Angeles area throughout Tuesday morning.
