A vehicular accident resulted in extensive damage to a church in the Adams-Normandie neighborhood of South Los Angeles. The accident occurred early in the morning hours of November 10, 2024, before the regular Sunday worship service.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that the crash happened at 2:49 a.m. on West Adams Boulevard and resulted in a red sedan being flipped onto its side and bursting into flames. Firefighters on the scene were observed dousing the flames while the vehicle remained on the sidewalk, directly adjacent to the damaged church.
Additionally, the red sedan was found to have collided with several other parked vehicles outside the church, including a pickup truck, a white sedan, and a Jeep.
Ezra T. Maize, the pastor of the affected First AME Zion Church, spoke about the aftermath of the incident, noting the significant structural damage incurred by the church. He further mentioned an impending large-scale cleanup operation that would need to take place to restore the church to operational status. Despite the extensive damage, the church still conducted its 10 a.m. Sunday Service, albeit with adjustments to accommodate the situation.
More information on the incident emerged from the contributions of Sofia Pop Perez and KTLA photojournalist Phil Ige. Further investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
