A tragic accident occurred on November 2, 2024, when a suspected DUI crash claimed the lives of two teenagers in Riverside. The incident occurred early in the morning around 5:40 a.m., according to reports from the Riverside Police Department. The site of the crash was Wood Road, located north of Van Buren Boulevard.

First responders to the scene were met with a grisly scene. One of the two vehicles involved – a gray Lexus sedan – was in flames, and two people were found deceased inside after the fire was extinguished. Meanwhile, the other involved vehicle was a blue Scion, with an adult male as the sole occupant.

From initial investigations, it was revealed that a 17-year-old boy operating the Lexus had been speeding north on Wood Road when he ran a red light at the aforementioned Boulevard. The Scion, driven by the adult male who was crossing east at the intersection on a green light, collided with the Lexus.

The aftermath of the collision was grim. The Lexus went on to collide with a cement light pole, a wooden electrical pole, and a tree before it finally ceased movement and caught fire. The boy driving and an 18-year-old woman were both found dead inside the sedan once the fire was put out. Another 17-year-old male passenger sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Scions driver sustained no injuries and remained at the crash site, collaborating with investigators.

The Riverside Police Department has disclosed that alcohol and drugs are suspected factors contributing to this incident, along with the high speed of the vehicle. The identities of the deceased teenagers are yet to be released, pending family notification. Anyone with additional information regarding the collision is urged to reach out to Traffic Detective Amanda Beeman at 951-826-8723 or [email protected].
