A chain of events which began with a big rig crash involving two semi-trucks led to the temporary closure of the 710 Freeway in California early Tuesday morning. These events unfolded north of the Alondra Boulevard exit in Compton, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The CHP received information on the incident around 12:20 am, according to preliminary reports. KTLAs obtained video footage from the scene further clarified that there was significant damage sustained by a semi-truck, leading to fuel leakage.

In addition to the damaged truck, there was another big rig implicated in the crash. The second truck had been transporting a shipping container which overturned as a result of the accident. Despite receiving only minor front-end damages, the event led to a substantial fuel spill which subsequently shut down the freeway.

The restoration process of the freeway was prolonged due to debris that had resulted from the spillage from the second semi-truck involved. The CHP confirmed all the southbound lanes of the 710 in the area affected by the spillage to be closed until the freeway was sufficiently cleared. By 5 a.m., all lanes in the freeway had been reopened and operations had returned to normal.

The cause of the crash still remains under investigation by the authorities, however, there were no reports of any injuries associated with the incident.
